ELLA
CLARKE biography: Ella Clarke trained primarily as a ballet dancer at Rambert School of Dance, London, and the Perm State Choreographic Institute, Russia. Despite her early interest in ballet, she has predominantly worked as a performer and choreographer mainly in the contemporary genre. Since 2002, Ella has chosen to work as a solo performer. She has been strongly influenced by the work of Deborah Hay (founder member of Judson Dance Theatre). In 2002 she commissioned the solo 'Beauty' from Deborah Hay which she performed at Whidbey Island Arts Centre, Washington; Crawford Gallery, Cork; Dublin Fringe Festival 2003 and the International Dance Festival Ireland 2004. She was a recipient of the Choreographer's Bursary from the Arts council of Ireland and was Dance Artist In Residence in Wexford, Ireland in 2003. In 2004 she was co-creator of the unique Genesis Project which was a radical new model of dance practice in Ireland; again mentored by Deborah Hay. This work continued to blossom into a new work 'The Ridge' in autumn 2004. Ella also teaches and lectures widely at all over Ireland on drama courses and for the Association of Professional Dancers of Ireland (A.P.D.I). Adaptation of a Meeting, in 2005, was Ella's first commissioned work for Myriad Dance. |
