Ruins Special Performance
10pm National Town Walls Day –26th August 2007
Old Town Wall,Abbey Street Wexford
Following its recent sell out performance at Selskar Abbey
during the Wexford Opera Festival Fringe last June
Artistic Director, Deirdre Grant specially choreographed
an adaptation of this inimitable dance show for Walled Towns Day
last Sunday night to a packed and intrigued audience.
The show was opened by Councillor Joe Ryan (deputy Mayor)
and was part of the launch of Heritage week.
Over a thirty minute contemporary dance performance, the
audience was drawn into a delicate internal and external
exploration of body, landscape and texture, interwoven
around Wexford’s Town Wall. Danced and wonderfully performed
by dance artists, Deirdre Grant, Aine Stapleton
and John Hurley from Myriad Dance Company.
The choreography crafted an exciting blend of the modern
and the old. Video projection from Arizona combined
with live performance, voice and text. Exquisitely lit and with
photography by Padraig Grant the production was
embossed in a beautiful soundscape by Pat Jackman.
This extraordinary dance performance was supported with
funding from the Heritage Council, Wexford Borough Council.
